Meet ILEA Chicago Member - Kara Weber

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Who/ what inspired you to go into event planning? One of my first roles as a Convention Associate at Smith Bucklin inspired me to continue in the industry. I received my training ground along with the on site experience that I loved, working as a team. Also meeting those special people along the way that inspired me, supported me and helped me in the earlier years of my career, decide my direction. Sean Lynch NHS, and Jim Grillo and others.

Tell us one thing we might not learn about you right away? I am actually a shy person at times. I still have a dream of having my own event business one day, even if its a side shuffle.

What do you love the most about what you do? I do have a gift for gab thanks to my dad. I love connecting with people, and helping clients get what they need. Providing high level customer service is something I strive for every day and I was taught this early on in my career. I also love innovation, and being creative.

Where did you grow up? Beverly, South Suburb of Chicago

What's your event gone wrong horror story? Having a meeting in a remote location in Jackson Hole, WY. Internet was not what it is today, and we were in the middle of the Tetons. All systems went down and I had a lot of side eyes glaring at me and hands shaking because no one could access their emails. Via blackberry. As any planner does, we think quick, reassure the client and figure it out. All well, that ends well.

What made you interested in participating in ILEA? My paths crossed with Jeff Durocher, and he was the one who was encouraged me to get involved.
